Quilter's Guild of DallasAbout the GuildMission StatementThe purpose of this Guild shall be to preserve the heritage of quilting, to be a source of information and inspiration, to perpetuate a high quality of excellence in quilting and related arts, and to be a gathering for people with a common interest. History of the GuildSeveral years ago, Helen Hibbs, a local quilt teacher, felt the need for quilters in Dallas and the surrounding areas to form a group so that they could quilt together and learn from each other. At the urging of her students, Helen set a date. On November 7, 1979, she and other quilters gathered at a local cafeteria for an organizational meeting. The charter group of 71 quilters set lofty goals for themselves. They wanted a guild to preserve the heritage of quilting, be a source of information and inspiration, and in general perpetuate a high quality of excellence in quilting. Since that first meeting of the Quilters Guild of Dallas, the Guild has grown to include well over 500 members. Today, the Quilter's Guild of Dallas has twenty Friendship Groups, a large library, an important annual quilt show, workshops, and monthly meetings featuring nationally known speakers. We also award annual grants to quilt-related projects.
