Quilter’s Apprentice
2
The Quilter’s Guild of Dallas
is proud to offer a fun and educational youth program at Quilt
Celebration 2008. The program challenges the young participant to become
a Quilter’s Apprentice by completing a workbook of activities. The
activities planned are appropriate for youth in grades 3-12.
After entering the show, families and groups that wish to participate
will go to the “Quilter’s Apprentice” booth. For a small fee of $3.00,
participants will receive a workbook, which includes activities on
quilting terms and techniques. Games, puzzles and brainteasers make the
activities fun. The workbook also contains questions to encourage the
young apprentices to tour Dallas Quilt Celebration and record their
observations. Estimated time to complete the workbook is one and
one-half hours.
Upon completion of the workbook, the apprentice returns to the booth and
is presented with an embroidered patch featuring the show theme and logo
in recognition of their work.
In addition to being an activity that families can do together, this
program is appropriate for youth groups such as Girl Scout Troops with
adequate and proper adult supervision. (An adult must accompany youth
under age 16.) The activities may be applied to Girl Scout badge
requirements.
