Special Exhibits 2009

Each year we try to select special exhibits that will give our show an extra zing and give us the opportunity to showcase quilts that we might not otherwise have an opportunity to see.

Quilting Without Boundaries

We have some surprises for you this year in the Special Exhibits! “Quilting without Boundaries” will have 3 totally separate, different and interesting displays.

One exhibit will display postcards from around the globe. These “tiny quilts” are so fun to do! You’ll be amazed what you will see on these postcards, which will actually be mailed and postmarked from places as far away as Australia, Japan, England and Spain. These postcards are amazing and the detail will inspire you. The postcards will become the property of the QGD and some will become door prizes and many other surprises.

The second exhibit will be from our members and will show quilts and other items that they have made in one of the many workshops the QGD offers several times a year. So…. We need you finish that Charlotte Angotti quilt, and get to work on the lovely quilt you started at the Frieda Anderson workshop. We would even love to display the fabric you dyed in the Ann Johnston workshop. Our goal in this display is to show the diverse talents of our members and to make everyone else envious that they didn’t take the workshop. I know that there were many, many more workshops that I don’t have room to mention in this article and all are invited to enter in this display.

The third display will be an old fashioned "bed turning." This will be scheduled at intervals during each day, and will include commentary about each of the quilts as they are revealed during the "turning."

Returning Exhibits

In addition to the exhibits specially booked for this show, we'll also have returning favorites, including:

  • Dallas "Keeper Quilt" Collection - made from blocks made for the annual "Block Challenge."
  • Community Service Projects - Quilts and other items made for our community service recipients - Ronald McDonald House, Vogel Alcove, and Dallas Children's Advocacy Center.
