Guild Meeting Speaker – BRENDA JESCHKE

Lecture: Judging Criteria Through the Eyes of a Judge

Brenda will discuss what Judges are looking at when they evaluate your quilt in a show. She uses her quilts that have been judged previously as examples, discussing the critiques that were made concerning the quilt. Quilt each quilt we learn what the judge felt was a good point and what was an area that needed to be improved.

Brenda has been quilting since 1982, showing her quilts in competition since 1989 and has won numerous awards at major shows. In 1991 Brenda started teaching quilting, judging in 1997, and she has been teaching machine embroidery since 2007. She is a traditional quilt lover and makes mainly bed-size quilts. She machine pieces, hand appliques, and hand quilts. Her quilts are made from patterns that are in the public domain and available to any quilter.

In 1996 Brenda had an exhibit at the Ziegler Museum in Jennings, LA. An article she wrote on a binding technique was published in the May 2003 issue of Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine. Her quilt “Wedgewood Blue” was featured in the bookMastering the Art of McTavishing by Karen McTavish.

Brenda lives on a small farm outside of Buffalo, TX with her husband William Cole. Besides quilting, her hobbies include upkeep of the farm and working in her yard and garden. She also enjoys doing any type of embroidery. She says above all, she is just an ordinary girl who happens to love to make quilts and share her knowledge.
