This year, the beneficiary of the auction was:
Family Outreach Dallas, Inc.
Family Outreach Dallas teaches teen parents the skills and know-how to provide their children safe, secure, supportive and healthy home environments. The organization works with young parents from the birth of their child until he or she reaches age three, helping them become familiar with the milestones in a child’s growth and development. This ensures that these youngsters will be ready to enter preschool and beyond. Visit the Family Outreach Dallas website at http://www.familyoutreach-northtexas.org/dallas/index_fod.html.
Our mini-auction funds will be earmarked for the Mentoring Our Mothers (MOM) program that Family Outreach Dallas provides. MOM provides early childhood parent education to seven (7) different high schools in the north Dallas area from both Dallas ISD and Richardson ISD school districts to pregnant and parenting teens. MOM recognizes the unique development stage the teen parent is going through and works to help her value herself and her personal goals while she develops mastery as a parent. Our support through the miniauction will help each of these young women to realize that they are shining "stars" with unique gifts and talents.
Every person who donated a mini quilt and/or bid on our quilts empowered teen mothers to believe in themselves and to become the mothers that their children need. Together, along with our talent, needles, thread, patterns, and computers – we are providing love, hope, encouragement, and self esteem to young women. They, and their children, are our country's future – we have helped them get a great start!
