Shelly Goodwyn

Remember me? Shelly Goodwyn. Formerly from Red Oak and now living in East Dallas near White Rock Lake. I sold my insurance agency in 2017 and worked for 2 years as an agent for a different agency. Last May I retired to focus on taking care of my husband. Though I haven’t been active in the guild much lately, I have in the past. I’ve been President and Show Chair for two terms each, Programs/Workshops one term, and worked with Rhonda Anderson in Community Service for most of my years at the guild. I joined the guild in about 1993 and have been on the show committee since 1997. I have two grown children (BTW Laura is a great mother of two girls); three step children and a combined seven grandchildren with another one due in late May. In this crazy social distancing mess, I spend my days walking, sewing, reading, line dancing (online), jigsaw puzzles, and keeping up with church friends.

Nancy Netherland

3rd VP, Programs and Workshops

Nancy is a native Texan, born and raised in Austin. She has been a member of the Dallas Guild since 2004 and has served as librarian and database manager as well as participating in two small groups.  Like most little girls, she learned to sew from her maternal grandmother and later from her own mom whose dress making skills were amazing. Nancy spent her school years making doll clothes and her own clothes. She took a quilting class in 1987, after her first son was born, with the hopes of making a quilt for him. That quilt didn’t happen. Soon a second son was born, and quilting went to the back burner until 2004 when she visited the guild and was awestruck at the beautiful quilts and gorgeous fabrics. She couldn’t wait to join a small group and start playing with fabric in new way. She loves all quilt designs, but leans heavily toward more modern styles and cheery colors in her own work. Nancy loves learning about new techniques, fabrics and approaches to quilting. When she is not sewing, Nancy is working at a quilt store, reading, gardening, walking her dog or traveling with her husband of 35 years. And yes, the sons did finally get their quilts.

Lut De Mulder

6th VP, Show

Born and raised in Belgium, Lut moved to the U.S. when her husband received a scholarship to attend the University of Chicago in 1976. They then moved to Dallas when her husband was hired by Texas Instruments (TI). Since then the family has moved a couple times between Texas and the French Riviera, where T.I. had a major site. Lut has been married for 45 years to her high school sweetheart. They have three married sons living in Reno, NV, Seattle and the French Riviera.

She’s very proud of her 6 grandchildren: Sebastien, Isabella, Amelia, Sara, Viktor and Camelia. They all sleep under many of Lut’s quilts. She started quilting during her 3 years in Houston and found this a great way to make friends. After 10 years of teaching English and French as a second language at the Dallas International School, Lut retired to use all the fabric and quilting toys she bought over the years. She has been an active member of the Dallas and Plano quilt guilds in Texas, and the Canton and Cruso guilds in N.C., where she spends her summers. Besides quilting she loves to cook (French of course), enjoys wine (also French), fitness and travelling the world with her husband.

Marcia Wood

7th VP, Education

Marcia is a self-described renaissance woman… WHAT??? Renaissance can mean rebirth or revitalization — as in rebirth of learning. If you are that person who says, “why, how, I want to understand,” you may be a renaissance woman (or man) too.

In college Marcia considered majoring in Art, Physics, Math, Chemistry, Geology, etc. She settled on Geology but always maintained an interest in how the world works (Physics), and a love of exploring art processes, loving the tactile and the visual. And, she loves sharing her curiosity and interests. She has taught in a variety of settings including home educating two children through high school, but her favorite job has been teaching beginning quilters, as well as more experienced quilters.

Marcia looks forward to challenging Guild members with new skills and fulfilling the mission of the Guild, “… to be a source of information and inspiration, to perpetuate a high quality of excellence in quilting…”
