Program: Sam Hunter (via Zoom)

Sam Hunter is a fiber artist and quilt pattern designer as well as the Chief Everything Officer at Hunter’s Design Studio. She holds an MFA in Fiber Arts, and blends this classic training with her sense of play in all that she does. She believes that everyone has innate artistic talent, and wants to help you find yours. As a teacher, she’s relaxed, encouraging and generous, and loves to share the joy of making beautiful things. As a pattern designer, she often designs for our newest sewists and our up-and-comers. She likes to design patterns that can be made with beginners’ skills, but that are more interesting than the usual big block patterns that are usually offered to our newbies.

Sam believes that the arts and crafts have value in our lives. To quote one of her favorite professors, the creative people are the ones who make this world beautiful enough to live in. She considers this a life-long pursuit!

Lecture:  The History of Word Quilts

This great Zoom lecture takes us from the 1800s to 2020, from the first signature and fundraising quilts through to present day protest art. Sam also includes some of her personal fine artwork, and talks about the stories the work is aiming to convey…with live a Q&A session.

There is no workshop this month.
